Polly works in 22ct gold because she loves the metal and because it was used by the goldsmiths of the ancient near east who have had a great influence on her work. Her jewellery is bold and strong and ultimately wearable, which is its most important feature. Each piece is handmade and unique so while she can copy a design, no two pieces will ever be the same. In her new collection Polly has introduced oxidised silver which adds to the ancient look of her work without detracting from the established ethos of her designs.
Polly uses semi-precious stones almost exclusively, but just sometimes she finds a precious stone that is too beautiful to resist and which she knows will work perfectly with the metal, and then she’ll buy it and design a piece round the stone. Polly favours stones that are not perfect in that they have inclusions in them which make them interesting and seemingly less modern, but which work perfectly in her contemporary designs. Polly’s work is collectable and wearable – the ultimate combination for jewellery.
