With the use of honest mechanisms, Helena’s practice is inspired by interaction and movement, from boxes to pendants which slot together and include a range of handmade fittings. Her work involves a mix of materials, a combination of sterling silver and base metals such as copper and brass, which go through a process of patination to create blue, green and purple colours on the surface of the metal. This particular technique has become an integral part of her practice.
After graduating from her BA in Jewellery and Metalwork and MA in Design at Sheffield Hallam University, Helena moved into her current workshop in Sheffield where she uses a combination of traditional silversmithing techniques to make her pieces. Helena has won numerous awards for her silversmithing, including the “Design in Silver” award, awarded by the Contemporary British Silversmiths in 2016.
