Bryony Knox’s work is based on a love of storytelling, movement and colour. From elegant vessels to boxes with secrets, each individual piece is embellished using the techniques of repousse and chasing. She specialises in the ancient silversmithing technique of Repousse and Chasing. By using pine pitch and a myriad of small steel punches, she fashions and forms the mailable metal into functional silver sculptures.
In 2018 Bryony further explored these and other techniques whilst living as a Victorian silversmith and blacksmith for a month for BBC 2’s ‘Victorian House of Arts & Crafts’. Her experience as Silversmith in Residence at Edinburgh Zoo has informed recent collections- a series of kinetic silver objects, with function and form inspired by the essence of animals and birds. Scottish and world fables effect the subtle story threads in her design. Bryony’s work also explores the combination of glass and contemporary chased silver, creating sculptural yet functional silverware with a twist.
For the past twenty years Bryony has been selling and exhibiting in galleries throughout the UK and abroad, whilst also undertaking larger and more intricate private and public commissions, including objects for J K Rowling, Museum of Edinburgh & HRH Princess Anne.
