Artist Benjamin James Ryan specialises in designing and producing bespoke pieces of contemporary silverware, jewellery and public art. His work has a significant engineering influence used to create beautifully functional and practical items. His bespoke range of hand crafted silverware and jewellery employs the use of both traditional making skills, as well as technologies such as, ‘Water Jet Cutting’, ‘3D Rapid Prototyping’ and ‘CNC Milling’.
Being a traditionally trained silversmith and jeweller, coupled with a background in engineering, he aims to create stunning pieces of art, designed to stand the test of time, that are finished to the highest possible standards. Possessing the skills to both design and make at a range of scales enables Ryan to explore a multitude of materials and manufacturing techniques, giving him the opportunity to find the best possible design solutions in order to create truly unique pieces.
Ryan’s design ethos is based around packaging pure luxury into seemingly simplistic contemporary pieces of design. He strives to invent new products using precious metals, often through a hidden narrative, or by paying homage to iconic and classic design forms, using either a functional or aesthetic twist.
