Yuyi Cheng

Yuyi Cheng is a Taiwanese-born jewellery artist and designer-maker based in London. She trained at the London College of Fashion and later completed the Bishopsland Educational Trust residency in 2022, where she refined her technical practice and artistic direction.

Her work bridges Eastern symbolism and Western craftsmanship, blending contemporary design with the ancient Chinese art of filigree — a meticulous technique of twisting and weaving fine gold and silver wires. Drawing inspiration from mythology, nature, and personal heritage, Yuyi’s creations often feature phoenix and botanical motifs that embody transformation, rebirth, and resilience.

Known for her sculptural approach to fine wirework, Yuyi transforms delicate materials into intricate forms that challenge the boundaries between jewellery and art object. Her craftsmanship has been recognised by the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards, and she has been invited to join the Gold & Silver Wyre Drawers as a Freeman.

Through her practice, Yuyi seeks to preserve and reinterpret traditional Eastern techniques within a contemporary narrative — creating jewellery that is both technically precise and emotionally resonant.
